Pharmachologic effect

Pharmacological action - erythropoietic, hematopoietic.

Pharmacodynamics

Epoetin beta is a glycoprotein consisting of 165 amino acids, which, being a mitogenic factor and a differentiation hormone, promotes the formation of erythrocytes from partially determined erythropoiesis progenitor cells. Genetically engineered recombinant epoetin beta is identical in amino acid and carbohydrate composition to human erythropoietin.

Epoetin beta after intravenous and subcutaneous administration increases the number of erythrocytes, reticulocytes and hemoglobin levels, as well as the rate of incorporation of iron (59Fe) into cells, specifically stimulates erythropoiesis without affecting leukopoiesis. No cytotoxic effect of epoetin beta on bone marrow or on human skin cells has been identified.

EPO or Erythropoietin is a drug belonging to the so-called blood doping group. The essence of its action is quite simple. It helps the body to increase hemoglobin levels and saturate the athlete's cells with more oxygen and, accordingly, increase the athlete's endurance. This is especially important in sports such as cycling, long distance running, cross-country skiing and biathlon. Quite simply, the harder you are, the longer you can keep high speed. Many people compare the use of EPO with years of hard training.
